Module 1: Introduction
Hello! My name is Shawn and I go by he/him/his pronouns. I'm majoring in art and plan on pursuing a career in graphic design. I love creating digital and traditional art, and also enjoy sculpting. This is my first art history class, and I'm very excited as I have a big interest in works of art from around the world!
This is the artwork that I selected as my favorite. I love that, despite its simplistic features and geometric shapes, you can still recognize it as a humanoid figure. It is distinctly human even while lacking important features, such as arms and legs. Simplifying pieces is always such an interesting feat; the act of taking out aspects of something that makes it the most recognizable but still being able to know what it is afterwards is really incredible. Anyone can do it, but it takes skill to do it right.
Anthropomorphic stele, El-Maakir-Qaryat al-kaafa near Ha’il, Saudi Arabia, 4th millennium BCE (4000-3000 BCE)

Hey Shawn! I love your introduction, you seem like a very neat person. I also love your piece on the artwork you chose. I agree with the simplicity of the figure still being able to show humanoid features. It looks like those tea cups on Beauty and the Beast! XD
ReplyDeleteIt does look like the tea cups!!!
